Day 191: OT Psalms 1-9A; Know your Season, Pray & Pray More for Communion with God…

The Book of Psalms. The Book of Psalms, or Psalter, is a collection of religious songs, traditionally listed as 150…

The present collection is divided into five “books,” perhaps in imitation of the five Books of the Pentateuch…

In form and subject matter the psalms are most varied. Some were composed for liturgical use in the temple; others, for private reading. In some psalms the singer is an individual; in others, the community. One of the most common types is that of supplication to God for His help in various spiritual and temporal needs. But hymns of thanksgiving and of praise are also numerous. Less frequent are poems written primarily to discuss some problem or to teach some lesson…

About half the psalms are attributed in these “titles” to David…

BOLD are direct from The Bible, my family bible; other words are my thoughts, interpretations, and perspectives…

Wow, we are still in the Old Testament but there is singing, musical instruments and a whole lot of praying! Pray, pray, and pray some more!

I am in awe of God and His design of life for us!

Most psalms are from King David who was a powerful but fallen man that God resurrected as a sign of hope for all of us!

He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade (whatever he does, prospers.)

O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is your name over all the earth! You have exalted your majesty above the heavens.

What is man that you should be mindful of him, or the son of man that you should care for him? You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet…

So grateful to God for His love! Note the “O Lord, our Lord” is proof that we are in community with one another and the Lord is our Lord all one together! God’s Will through US!

Several references to one’s ability to stand on one’s two feet… the mountain pose in yoga! If and when we fall down into the ‘FREE WILL Trough,’ be like a lamb and get right back up and clean yourself off; not like a pig who wallows in the muck and gradually gets use to it and ends up wanting to stay down, not, get up, get out, stand up!

Therefore in judgment the wicked shall not stand, nor shall the sinners, in the assembly of the just.

The arrogant may not stand in your sight…

Fear can be a good thing in life and a bad thing too! Fear that is overwhelming, that inhibits us and causes us to become immobilized in thought, word, and deed is not good. Fear to respect, worship, and serve God is good!

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice before him

Will worship at your holy temple in fear of you, O Lord

God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit are alive within me and you! If I surrender my will, give God’s Will priority and align my will to His Will then good things, meaningful things happen in my life! Alleluia!

But you, O’Lord, are my shield; my glory, you lift up my head!

When I call out to the Lord, he answers me from his holy mountain. When I lie down in sleep, I wake again for the Lord sustains me. I fear not…

Rise up, O Lord! Save me, my God!

Salvation is the Lord’s! Upon your people be your blessing!

When I call, answer me, O my just God, you who relieve me when I am in distress; Have pity on me, and hear my prayer!

Men of rank, how long will you be dull of heart? Why do you love what is vain and seek after falsehood? Know that the Lord does wonders for his faithful one; the Lord will hear me when I call upon him. Tremble, and sin not; reflect, upon your beds, in silence. Offer just sacrifices, and trust in the Lord.

You put gladness into my heart, more than when grain and wine abound. As soon as I lie down, I fall peacefully asleep, for you alone. O Lord, bring security to my dwelling.

More than when food and alcohol abound- yes, my present day experience for sure!

Self-care and gratitude are a healthy way of life!

Live life sourced spiritually from the inside-out and ultimately God be the only judge of me and you!

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will declare all your wondrous deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, Most High…

But the Lord sits enthroned forever; he has set up his throne for judgment. He judges the world with justice; he governs the peoples with equity. The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of distress. They trust in you who cherish your name, for you forsake those who seek you, O Lord.

Do me justice, O Lord, because I am just, and because of the innocence that is mine. Let the malice of the wicked come to an end, but sustain the just, O Searcher of Heart and Soul, O just God.

I will give thanks to the Lord for his justice, and sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Unless they be converted…

Unless I am converted from a Temporary Child of the World to an Eternal Child of God…

Have pity on me, O Lord; see how I am afflicted by my foes, you have raised me up from the gates of death, that I may declare all your praises and, in the gates of the daughter of Sion, rejoice in your salvation

Have pity on me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my body is in terror…

The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord has accepted my prayer.

Amen! Alleluia! TROML Baby (an exclamation of JOY)!!!

About half the psalms are attributed in these “titles” to David…

Psalm 1: True Happiness

Happy the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked. Nor walks in the way of sinners, nor sits in the company of the insolent, but delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on his law day and night.

Insolent—boldly rude or disrespectful; contemptuously impertinent; insulting.

He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade (whatever he does, prospers.)

Not so the wicked, not so; they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore in judgement the wicked shall not stand, nor shall the sinners, in the assembly of the just. For the Lord watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked vanishes.

Psalm 2: The Universal Reign of the Messias

Why do nations rage and the peoples utter folly?

And now, O kings, give heed; take warning, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice before him; with trembling pay homage to him, lest he be angry and you perish from the way, when his anger blazes suddenly. Happy are all who take refuge in him!

Psalm 3: Trust in God in Time of Danger. (A psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom)

2 Samuel 15:13-18: David Flees Jerusalem. 13 An informant came to David with the report, “The Israelites have given their hearts to Absalom, and they are following him.” 14 At this, David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem: “Get up, let us flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. Leave at once, or he will quickly overtake us, and then bring disaster upon us, and put the city to the sword.” 15 The king’s servants answered him, “Whatever our lord the king chooses to do, we are your servants.” 16 Then the king set out, accompanied by his entire household, except for ten concubines whom he left behind to care for the palace.17 As the king left the city, with all his officers accompanying him, they halted opposite the ascent of the Mount of Olives, at a distance, 18 while the whole army marched past him.

O Lord, how many are my adversaries! Many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “There is no salvation for hin in God.” But you, O’Lord, are my shield; my glory, you lift up my head!

When I call out to the Lord, he answers me from his holy mountain. When I lie down in sleep, I wake again for the Lord sustains me. I fear not the myriads of people arrayed against me on every side.

Rise up, O Lord! Save me, my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; the teeth of the wicked you break. Salvation is the Lord’s! Upon your people be your blessing!

Psalm 4: Joyful Confidence in God (For the leader with stringed instruments. A psalm of David.)

Tremble, and sin not; refect, upon your beds, in silence. Offer just sacrifices, and trust in the Lord.

Many say, “Oh, that we might see better times!” O Lord, let the light of your countenance shine upon us! You put gladness into my heart, more than when grain and wine abound. As soom as I lie down, I fall peacefully asleep, for you alone. O Lord, bring security to my dwelling.

Psalm 5: Prayer for Divine Help (For the leader; with wind instruments. A Psalm of David.

Hearken to my words, O Lord, attend to my sighing. Heed my call for help, my king and my God! To you I pray, O Lord; at dawn you hear my voice; at dawn I bring my plea expectantly before you… the arrogant may not stand in your sight

But I, because of your abundant Kindness, will enter your house; I will worship at your holy temple in fear of you, O Lord; because of my enemies, guide me in your justice; make straight your way before me.

Their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue…

But let all who take refuge in you be glad and exult forever. Protect them, that you may be the joy of those who love your name. For you, O’Lord, bless the just man; you surround him with the shield of your good will.

Psalm 6: Prayer in Time of Distress (For the leader; with stringed instruments, “upon the eighth.” A Psalm of David

Have pity on me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my body is in terror…

My eyes are dimmed with sorrow; they have aged because of all my foes.

The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord has accepted my prayer.

Psalm 7: An Appeal to the Divine Judge (A plaintive song of David, which he sang to the Lord because of Chrus the Benjaminite)

2 Samuel 2:15:  15 So they rose and were counted off: twelve of the Benjaminites of Ishbaal, son of Saul, and twelve of David’s servants.

2 Samuel 16:11: 1Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants: “If my own son, who came forth from my loins, is seeking my life, how much more might this Benjaminite do so! Let him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him to.

2 Samuel 20:1: Sheba’s Rebellion. Now a scoundrel named Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite, happened to be there. He sounded the horn and cried out,

We have no share in David,    nor any heritage in the son of Jesse.     Everyone to your tents, O Israel!”

Do me justice, O Lord, because I am just, and because of the innocence that is mine. Let the malice of the wicked come to an end, but sustain the just, O Searcher of Heart and Soul, O just God.

Unless they be converted…

I will give thanks to the Lord for his justice, and sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Psalm 8: The Majesty of God and the Dignity of Man (For the leader; “upon the gittith.” A Psalm of David.

Psalm 9A: Thanksgiving for the Overthrow of Hostile Nations (For the leader; according to Muth labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will declare all your wonderous deeds.
