Upon Awakening, what does One’s Splendid Spiritual Self Really Need To Do?

Upon awakening, what does my Splendid Spiritual Self really need to do?

My mind begins racing with thoughts of the day but how much of that is really needed?

Does my mind control my being or will my spirit lead me through this day?

Is my mind the controller of the day or is my mind simply a working and logical entity to assist and navigate my spirit through another day in a secular, often times confusing world? Why are children killing children in such a sophisticated society such as ours? Why do I continue to overeat when I am overweight and not hungry? Why do I continue to reach out and try to love others when at times it is difficult to love myself? Life is statically complicated yet dynamically simple.

Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, why do I need thoughts such as these if I am transitioning to being my Splendid Spiritual Self for the rest of my life?

I know I have things to do to function in the world this day. I have to get up, put on some sort of worldly appearance, and get through my day to live for another day. What would Brahman, Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, Jesus, or the Lord our God do with the time, energy, and opportunity that this day gives each one of us?

Upon awakening, I quiet my mind for a period of prayer and meditation. I am safe and secure for the moment and have no need of my mind right now. As the mind quiets I notice my breath and even my heartbeat. I feel grateful to be alive. My breath, the enabler of life, leads me to my spirit.

Completely now as my Splendid Spiritual Self, I touch base with other always present and always promoted worldly and human entities—my emotions, my ability to speak, and my body.

After all, I have free and if I have free will then I have alternatives and if I have alternatives then I have a choice to make. I choose to pray and meditate and reconfirm and revitalize my Splendid Spiritual Self every morning upon awakening.

Emotions are like thoughts, ever present and even penetrating, my sense of peace, joy, unity, and freedom brought by the recognition of the Splendid Spiritual Self.

What emotions may I identify, accept, and feel at this moment? Spiritually I feel gratitude for the simple fact of being alive and having the opportunity to live another day. But is there a hangover from yesterday or the imprint from a dream so real that I know I lived it and did not imagine it? In the truth of the moment can I identify any and all emotions? Or have I self-medicated myself into denial, justification, and rationalization of their actual existence? If needed, I take a moment now to accept and feel my emotion with no responsive need, action or even thought, no lingering attachment. I just accept and feel and let them go to someplace other than my mind and my being.

There is no need to speak unless I have awoken with my lover at my side. If that is the case then in addition to being grateful for being alive for another day I am also grateful for the presence of my lover and the love bestowed upon me. Words are powerful. I choose words carefully and seek to understand myself and the motives behind my words before uttering a syllable.

My heart speaks to all those who have loved me throughout my life beginning with my mother who delivered me into this world through the highest of human acts of love. I am the product of the love of my mother and father, their highest expression of their human and spiritual love. I am grateful to be loved and to have the ability to love. In a sea of love I now return to the silence of my Splendid Spiritual Self.

Whatever the state of my body I am hopeful that it will sustain my existence in this world for another day. I am grateful to be present in this moment only. I have let go of yesterday and let go of any judgment or control of myself and others. I truly love, accept and am compassionate to myself as I know God, my Creator, is to me. I am significant without a sense of self, pride, or ego. My love and my spirit comes from the inside out and is independent of this world I live in. I am blessed to be me and to be alive.

I pledge to take care of my body the best way that I can, minimally better than yesterday. I will not take it for granted. I will provide proper nutrition, exercise and rest for my body. My body is my living temple and I am the appointed caretaker. I will sense pain and pleasure through my body knowing that they are the same from a spiritual sense. My Splendid Spiritual Self is inspired by either and both.

My Splendid Spiritual Self has risen above my mind, emotions, speech, and body. I have gained the proper orientation for today. I am a spiritual being living a human life, not a human being trying to live a spiritual life. Whatever one’s God, I feel their presence within me. I sense their will for me and I sense the power from them to do that will with my entire being for the entirety of this day.

I see the proper separation and independence between my mind, emotions, speech, and body and their proper perspective to my Splendid Spiritual Self. There are intervening one-way personal, prayerful, and protective inner boundaries. I start with my Splendid Spiritual Self and let it lead my mind, emotions, speech, and body. TROML Baby!

My Splendid Spiritual Self has awakened me for yet another day of life.

I am ready for the transition as there is no transition from here on out, from this place forward. Life is spiritual life and spiritual life is life for me.

In the morning, do we need to be awaken at all?

BY whom and for what purpose of today?

One day, many, many centuries ago, the great Chinese sage Confucius was asked by a disciple, “Great teacher, tell us about the life after death.” Confucius replied, “We have not yet learned to know life. How can we know death?”

Don’t we all, within our own religion and spiritual beliefs, walk as Jesus did? Do we not all experience death and resurrection through our own idiosyncrasies as we journey through life as we know it? Aren’t we all just spiritual beings trying to live a human life versus human beings trying to live a spiritual life? Can we come out of self, come out of denial, justification, and rationalization? Where and when did, does or will that crossover from human to spirit occur inside us?

God’s love is reigning down on me today!

I hope the same for you!

Let’s have a TROML Day today!

Okay That’s the Symptom, What’s the Real Problem???

1My being overweight is just a symptom of my real problem.

My being a compulsive overeater and a sugar addict is just a symptom of a symptom of my real problem.

My character defects and shortcomings are my real problem.

Yes, a childhood immersed in alcoholism didn’t help but I am now an adult and can choose not to make childlike decisions on how to be me in real life.

2Real life, real problems, real solutions…

No denial, no justification, no rationalization…

Let’s utilize TROML, a dynamic self-realization process, to realize who we really are and what our mission is in our real life.

We will drill down as far as we need to go to get to the truth.

Once we find the truth we will accept it for what it is—past history.

3In so doing we will find our True Self and release the Eternal Child Within.

Our lives will be inspired, focused and meaningful.

We will live in peace, joy and freedom.

Ultimately we will love ourselves, everybody else and our reclaimed life.

Feel Your Feelings First, Without Thinking!!!

1 No ThoughtsAt First, Try having Your Feelings with No Thoughts

What is that you say? Try having feelings with no thoughts?

Yes, I tried it this morning upon awakening.

How did I feel?

How did I feel without my thoughts telling me how I felt?

How did I feel without my thoughts, without my mind telling me how I felt?

How did I feel without my thoughts, without my mind and without my ego telling me how I felt?

How did I really feel, not how am I supposed to feel?

2 behind smile is a storyVery strange, yes, but also very effective for me as a way to get in touch with my true feelings, my True Self.

How can I have feelings with no thoughts?

Like this… when, not if, the thoughts come let them go immediately without thinking about them anymore. Focus on other things first, we will get to the thoughts later. Trust me.

What are you feeling?

What does that feeling you are having feel like?

3 heartbeat & breathFocus on your breath.

Keep the feeling but focus on your breath.

Breathe in, then out.

Breathe in, then out.

Breathe in then out…

Keep breathing trying to feel the feeling.

What am I feeling, not what am I supposed to be feeling.

Feel the rhythm of your heartbeat.

Don’t think about it, find it on your chest, your wrist or the carotid vein on your neck.

This isn’t a test, you don’t have to do it perfectly the first time.

Be present and doing your best is the only requirement.

4 How r u Fine with real feelings behindDon’t worry if you can’t find your heartbeat right now.

Focus on feeling that feeling that you awoke with.

It’s okay to skip finding the heartbeat, be thankful your heart doesn’t skip a heartbeat.

Be thankful for this moment of being alive.

Now what was that feeling you awoke with?

5 fear can get over itCan you describe, without thinking, what the feeling of frightened is for you?

For you, not anybody else.

What does it feel like for you to be frightened?

Can you describe it without thinking about it first?

Can you describe it in terms of your own personal experiences in life?

Can you describe it without letting your ego tell you what you are supposed to be feeling like in this moment?

6 accept feelingsRemember we have choices on how to think but we don’t have choices on how we feel.

I choose not to immediately feel the way I think I am supposed to feel.

I am not reenacting my feelings from some movie I saw that made a huge emotional impact on me.

I am not feeling how I think others expect me to feel.

I am going to feel first and explore, delve into that feeling for a moment or two.

Then I am going to accept that feeling as being true for me at this moment of my life.

I feel first.

7 Feeling my FeelingsThen I add what I think happened that is associated with this feeling.

I feel XXX right now when that happened.

Maybe you think you feel the way you do because of the dream you just had?

I usually can remember my dreams when I awake on my own. But if an alarm click goes off to awaken me, poof there goes the recollection of the dream along with my slumber too.

I feel XXX when YYY happened to me…

Then think again, what caused you to feel this way? What happened to you? What did somebody else do to you?

I feel XXX when YYY happened because of ZZZ.

8 get out your feelingsGo one step further and include yourself in this mystery feeling puzzle.

What did you do to cause this feeling? What choices did you make that caused this feeling? Is this feeling an unwanted or wanted result of the consequences of a choice or decision that you made?

Go another step further and include your Higher Power, a God of your understanding, at this moment in your life.

Where was she or He or It in all of this?

Where was your relationship with your Higher Power in all of this?

When I came out of my sugar addiction into recovery where I have been present, clear and alive like never before I learned that I can feel my feelings.

They won’t hurt me in of themselves.

9 era of good feelingsAnother thing I learned in my recovery from sugar addiction is that not only will I feel what society dictates to be negative feelings such as weak, depressed, and frightened; I can and will feel fully the other “good” feelings like joy, being safe and being loved.

I tell you it is a whole new world with TROML, your TROML!

What you feel, what you think, what you say, what you do is all yours to confidently decide with your own TROML program guiding you and you let your personal God (a God of your understanding, which can be a God not one other human being on Earth has or understands or it can be no God at all) and your innate human instincts, senses and the ability to reason life’s challenges out for yourself.

We have choices.

10 make new life with new choicesFeelings are true but not necessarily a call to arms in our life. In fact the worldly reaction to one’s feelings can take you down the wrong road in your life.

Remember it is your life.

Your life to live for the rest of your life. TROML Baby!

Feelings will pass.

Consequences of our choices may not pass for a long time.

Don’t think you have to be perfect.

Don’t think you have to control everything.

Don’t think it is all or nothing.

Don’t judge yourself or anyone else harshly and critically.

11 I have a feeling I am not the only oneAccept people, places, things and situations, at least for this moment, for this day if you have to in order to maintain your serenity.

TROML is one day at a time Baby!

Be compassionate, loving and accepting of yourself for this moment, this day in your life.

Have peace, joy and freedom with your own TROML program.

Try feeling your feelings, at first without thinking.

Then make the best choices or no choice at all today.

Have a TROML Day today!

We All Need a Higher Power that is Not Us…

Higher PowerWithout a Higher Power, I only trusted myself. I never noticed how poorly that was working for me. Having faith in God has allowed me to let go of much of my fear and then open myself with a calm heart. I was unaware of the crippling effects that a lack of trust in God and others created until I began to work the Twelve Steps. Now I see just how imprisoned I was and that I was the jailer.

Emotions, Feelings & Emotional Maturity

Feeling & EmotionsEmotions and feelings and maturity… they seem almost too dynamic, too personal and unpredictable to define, much less understand, accept or even utilize to improve one’s life. But the unknown is futile ground for growth, the geographical equivalent of not being able to learn anything if you are always the person talking. Let’s listen in from the inside-out to see if we can begin our journey here.

The word emotion and feeling are both nouns and are synonyms—they have the same or nearly the same meaning as each  other. Why then the need for two words? My guess begins with a feeling being the physical touch, one of the five primary senses along with sight, hearing, taste, and smell. Though subjective it did not go far enough so emotion was needed to describe the state of consciousness and feelings beyond the five senses. Emotions number close to 300 so far as I can google them right now.

5 sensesIt occurred to me that the five senses, including touch (feeling) are real and impact us no matter our current state of mind, attitude or perspective. We can close our eyes and be asleep and miss what there is to see, smell, hear or taste. But physically if something touches us, like a Mack truck speeding down the highway while we are napping on the shoulder (better to pull into a rest area), we will feel the impact. A light, gentle rub on the back while we are sleeping, maybe not.

With emotions, not senses, we can be way off base. What we fear, may be embraced by others without that fear, real or not real and a complete fabrication of our minds. Emotions are much more subjective and personal. But they can be as powerful or more powerful than our senses. When we watch a movie it is not real. Those are mostly well paid actors. Those are stunts usually planned in advance with safety in mind. The tricks of the camera such as green screens can be as complex as those our minds can engage in. What we are seeing may depict real events in life but they themselves are not real.

MaturityMaturity is even more subjective. The cleanest examples are a ripen fruit or a loan paid in full. There is a strong connection with duty or performance over time. Perhaps we see emotional maturity in that worldly sense—to persevere to the end, a successful ending, no matter what? Or maybe to be emotionally mature is to be able to feel all 300 or so emotions without any adverse affect on oneself or others?

I am not sure but do take exception to the notion of a “perfected condition.” I don’t believe in attaining perfection, only progress. I don’t think life allows you to ever get to the place called perfect. It’s an illusion, sometimes a simple worldly delusion that takes us in the opposite direction.

2 road to eomotional maturitySimply stated, the goal for me, in terms of progressing down the emotional maturity road is to learn about emotions outside the five senses and see if, through my life journey, I can be alert to which ones I am experiencing and do my best to not have any negative thoughts, words or behaviors associated with that experience.

Definitions below… life here and ahead… enjoy!

Sad 1 Lady Face 640Being sad is usually characterized as a negative emotion or feeling. Something not wanted. Yet it is present and a fact of life. Can we make choices and decisions that result in less sadness? Probably, certainly when it comes to relationships and human interactions, even with strangers. But we do make choices and decisions in life and even if they are the right ones, sadness inevitably finds us in unexpected illnesses, or even tragic loss of life of friends and family.

Sad 2 Man face 640For me, I think, they key is feeling the emotion and not emoting the feeling by acting out negatively in thoughts, words or behavior. There is a linkage there. If it gets in our heads and not addressed it is likely to make it out into the world through our words or actions. Why not accept the emotion as real and let it pass either through inaction or taking necessary steps?

Sad 3 dog 640For me it is important to not be isolated but rather to be in contact with supportive friends and family, people I trust to trust me and let the feelings, good or bad pass with no negative consequences. The worse thing I can do is to turn to food and think I can work through sadness by compulsively overeating. Time after time in my experience I find that compulsively overeating only creates a new set of issues to be sad and depressed over.

Can animals be sad or do we project that feeling or emotion on them? Do we train them to mirror our state of emotion?

The reality is sadness has many synonyms but only one antonym.

Let’s be sad when we have to be sad so we can get through it to the happiness of being alive on the other side.

Sad (adjective):

1.   affected by unhappiness or grief; sorrowful or mournful:
“to feel sad because a close friend has moved away.”

2.   expressive of or characterized by sorrow:
“sad looks; a sad song.”

3.   causing sorrow:
“a sad disappointment; sad news.”

Synonyms:   unhappy, despondent, disconsolate, discouraged, gloomy, downcast, downhearted, depressed, dejected, melancholy.

Antonyms:   happy.

Most psychotherapists would agree that depression is anger and sadness that has been repressed. Sadness is an emotion, and depression is an illness. And whereas many measures of depression and sadness have been defined, a coherent description of happiness remains elusive.

Frustrated 2 Woman 640Being frustrated in frustrating, isn’t it. Not only are we frustrated but it is sometimes difficult to get past this emotion or to simply let it pass. Frustrating!

Do you have a TROML Program of your own?

I was surprised to learn it meant disappointed. I always thought it meant to be angry and maybe that is the glimmer of hope for me when I am frustrated.

When I am disappointed it must mean my performance (as self assessed) did not meet my expectation. Or I can not honestly accept people, places, things and situations which means I am trying to control others or situations beyond my rightful place.

Frustrated 1 Man 640It could also mean someone has unjustly crossed one of my personal boundaries and actually done a harmful thing to me. It might require a response (not an automatic reaction) on my part to set things right.

Either of these three possibilities require prayer and meditation before acting out in words or behavior. Take a moment now to find a safe, quiet place and clear your mind, literally clear your mind of all thoughts, and notice your breathing. The Serenity Prayer—God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Furstrated 3 Geico 640Another tactic to shake out of the frustration is to do an activity that can  bring one of the antonyms present in your life at that moment in time—encourage, fulfilled, inspirited, stimulated, uplifted.

Call an encouraging friend, do something that fulfills and stimulates you, or likewise brings you to life in an uplifting way. For me that is sport, journaling and going to a meeting or spiritual service. In other words get out of yourself and then ask for direction on how to approach the situation that is causing you to be frustrated.

Symptoms include persistently feeling in a low mood and a loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. Please get help if you need it, depression is quite common and not something to be ashamed of or embarrassed by. TROML means there is always hope with any step towards getting the help we need.

2 depressedBeing depressed is also a normal emotion that comes and goes. It can be an unsettling feeling and one that when it comes seems like it will never go away but it does. Everyone feels the emotion of being depressed sometime in their life if not more often when things we have no control over change when we don’t want them to change. The death of a family member or friend or even someone we don’t know but identify with. Ours is a tragic world at times and broadcasting that tragedy on television, the internet and the radio seems to be the thing to do. The key is to balance the bad news with the good news and to be truly grateful for what we do have.

3 feeling depressedMake a decision to accept the emotion of depressed and then move on to doing and being the opposite—cheerful, fortunate, glad, happy, lucky, and optimistic from the inside-out. Find a quiet place and pull out your TROML Journal and make a list of those things in your life today that you are thankful for. Add to that those positive, happy activities that are already scheduled to occur in the future. Let’s be grateful for what we do have. When the emotion of depression comes into our life let’s us it as an opportunity to explore and find out what is behind it. Happiness and the steps needed to be taken to be happy are always a choice for us to make.
